Pop (William S. Novak) 1922-2012

On July 21, 2012, Pop passed at 90 years old. He lived as an everyday comedian and true craftsman, working in many mediums including metal, wood, and paint, while growing an enormous and close family. I attribute a large part of my humor and craftsmanship to him. As one small aspect of his life, well into his late eighties, he was suppling me with stacks of handcrafted wooden fins, aptly named Pop fins. This was something he did with ease and unknowingly was a silent source of inspiration to the surfcraft community matching the quality of the most influential fin makers today.

I’m greatful for the time I had with him and all he has taught me, in and out of the woodshop. He had a great influence on my life which I will always carry with me.

Over the past few years, he made it a point to teach me his tricks….Pop fins will live on.
